Andrea Cesalpino (Latinized as Andreas Caesalpinus) (June 6, 1519 - February 23, 1603) was an Italian physician, philosopher and botanist.

Inside his works he classified plants based on data from their fruits & seeds, like than alphabetically or even by medicative properties. Inside 1555, he succeeded Luca Ghini as director of the botanic garden around Pisa. A phytologist Pietro Castelli was one of his students.

Cesalpino besides did limited act in the field of physiology. He theorized the circulation of the blood. Even so, he envisioned the "chemical circulation" consisting of recurrent evaporation & condensation of blood, like than a construct of "physical circulation" popularized per writings of William Harvey.
